Memorial Day 2019
Never forget those who gave all.
I heard a guy on the radio say to remember what Memorial Day is all about, "to enjoy the day with friends and family," and it broke my heart.
There's nothing wrong with enjoying this day, and God knows we should cherish every moment with the people we love, but please take a moment to remember the men and women who died serving this country.
More than 1.1 million Americans have been killed fighting for this country...thousands more in training accidents, or other tragedies. They died for all of us, even those who don't agree with the politics, the location, or the need for someone to stand between danger and people who sometimes don't even know they need protecting.
They died for your right to worship as you wish, to vote for the other guy, to disagree with every word I write, and a thousand other freedoms we take for granted.
They weren't fictional characters.
They weren't people who wanted to die.
They weren't nameless soldiers in a video game.
They were real people, often teenagers, with everything to live for. Some were drafted, some where looking for a better life or education, many volunteered out of a sense of duty.
But they all answered the call, and on this one day, those of us who didn't know and love them, honor them.
Generations of American service members have fought and died to protect our freedom and right of self-determination. For that, I humbly say thank you, God bless your families, and may your sacrifice never be forgotten.
